Strengthening the GRID through Energy Storage
The electricity sector is working toward deep carbon reduction and net-zero carbon electricity by 2050, for reference energy storage on the grid should rise from 23 gigawatts to 213 gigawatts by 2050. We need innovative energy storage solutions that strengthen the reliability and capacity of the GRID, however racial disparities in disconnection, utility fees, and inefficient housing persist. This panel will explore how to strengthen the GRID through energy storage with a focus on communities that are historically underserved and often forgotten by the energy sector.

This significant investment provides a unique opportunity to set the U.S. back on track towards the midcentury goals of significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. What makes this bill so historic is that it includes funding to implement energy strategies for all communities including underserved communities and communities of color. This panel will explore the operationalization and execution of the energy provisions in communities of color.
